Oahu Information

The “Gathering Place” is the island of Oahu and the entire island is the City and County of Honolulu with a land area of 597.1 square miles.  Oahu is the third largest island, has three-fourths of the State’s population and is the center of business and government for the State of Hawaii.  Additionally, the world famous tourist destination, Waikiki, is located on this island and Downtown Honolulu is the financial district of Hawaii.   

AGRICULTURE: In 1996 sugarcane production ended and presently a variety of crops are cultivated such as vegetables and fruits, including the popular pineapple.

Aquaculture (1996): There are 44 operations with a production value of $2.1 million.

CLIMATE: The average temperatures range from 68° F. to 81° F.  and an average rainfall of 23 inches per year.

Island Flower:  The 'ilima which may have yellow or orange blossoms.

MILITARY: Most of the military personnel and dependents reside on Oahu. Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and the unified military
command for the Pacific (CINCPAC) is also located on Oahu.
